Shreddage X Metal: How to Achieve a Net Energy Gain with Nuclear Fusion

As you can see, we didn't play around with this one. The combination of Shreddage and Shreddage X makes for a complete rock and metal riff arsenal. Just check out the library page and listen for yourself to the demos:

shreddage x metal

Forged from the hammer of Ragnarok, Shreddage is a next-generation rhythm guitar library. It has been designed to provide the most realistic and flexible sound for rock and metal playing, giving the user the ability to recreate nearly any riff.

* Every crucial articulation for rock and metal rhythms: open sustains, powerchords, palm mutes, fast mutes, powerchord mutes, fast powerchord mutes, powerchord half-mutes, chord stops, pinch squeals, pick scrapes and slides

It's true that there are a lot of guitar sample libraries out there, including some that are even oriented toward rock and metal playing. However, you simply will not find a library that sounds as realistic as this for rock/metal rhythm playing that is also DI AND multisampled... and definitely not at our price!

We sampled open notes and powerchords (1-5-1), and nothing more than that. You can of course play in your own chords using the open sus or mute patches, but again, the focus of the library is rock/metal and filling in the niche (big, chuggy riffs, rapid thrashing, etc.) that was previously neglected. We may at some point do another library that is oriented toward jazz/pop rhythm playing in which case we would dedicate more time + space to chords.

Yeah, we've had requests for a library capable of lead playing too. It's a consideration ("Shreddage 2") but for now, I think the next thing in the family of Shreddage libraries would be a metal bass. Thanks for the kind words!

You know, if you want a dive bomb that badly, just pitch bend a sustained note in shreddage accordingly. I actually did just that in one of my guitar ocremixes, because I didn't have a floyd rose trem to pull it off with my guitar, at least not without putting the tuning of my guitar completely out of wack. Worked quite well for me.

With Shreddage Bass 2 library Impact Soundworks have crafted a library with such realism that you can use it clean and bare in ambience and in underscore tracks or add some effects for a more traditional metal track.

Shreddage Bass 2 has a huge range with playback covering up to 4.5 octaves from a low G to a high C. The lowest of the notes (the low G) might seem silly for anything other than metal at first, but I quickly found the extended range to be a real plus when writing and using it on scores allowing for some extra low support under a string section or an ambient cue. The sound is pristine and crystal clear with a warmth even when you play at a lower velocities.

Naturally this is a killer guitar for rock and metal music, particularly heavy subgenres and progressive variations. But as you can hear in the walkthrough video and demos, the clean tone possibilities are just as impressive. The clarity and sustain in the pickups make Hydra a great choice for any kind of 'gaze' style music too.

Forged from the hammer of Ragnarok, Shreddage is the most realistic and flexible electric guitar instrument for rock and metal rhythm. Included is a full range of articulations from palm and aggressive mutes to powerchords, vibrato, harmonics, pinch squeals, pick scrapes, neck slides, portamento slides, chordstops, and more, all recorded CLEAN (DI) for you to customize your own tone!

It has all of the basics. If you are a guitar player, you may not find that you need it. I bought it years ago when it first came out, but started using it in my iPhone as something to lay down ideas when I'm not around my guitar. I actually don't play or listen to that heavy style of guitar anymore (I'm more into Dream Pop and Post-Rock these days), but it's the best sample set available for metal guitar for iOS. You may also look into the SFZ version of Shreddage Bass. I REALLY like that bass! I use it for a lot of things.

TL;DR -- It's fantastic if you are into metal guitar and you don't know how to play guitar. If you know how to play guitar, there is an element of realism that comes with actual playing that no sample set can beat.

Impact Soundworks have already made a name for themselves with a small but diverse (ethnic/world music to heavy metal) range of products that have been well received. Shreddage Drums is an addition to the Shreddage line (guitar / bass) and definitely fit into the modern-rock/metal mold, with mix ready sounds out of the box.

I will describe the work flow for Shreddage Drums first as it works pretty well out of the box, albeit in a modern rock and metal context. The included bread and butter MIDI loops go a long way towards reinforcing that impression (though definitely top notch Groove Monkey grooves themselves). The minimal controls are a breeze to work with, and the basics can all be tweaked with a WYSIWYG interface. There are a number of great presets to choose from, including a plain vanilla raw version which is great for people wanting to start out with scratch. Overall, it took me around 10 minutes from installation to hearing what it can do in different contexts, so I would defiantly rate the ease-of-use and intuitiveness as high for this product.

Both the drum libraries are well thought out products that will definitely attract a variety of users. My only criticism is not related to the sound or usability. It is the lack of a groove-window/interface in either. In the case of Shreddage Drums, there are plenty of basic rock and metal grooves included but neither integration into the GUI nor a step sequencer. For Martin France Drums, there are no grooves included; neither is there provision for a step sequencer. But to be honest, this is just me being pedantic. While they may not replace Superior or BFD3 just yet, if you are into virtual drum instruments you may want to invest in both, which at this price is a no brainer.
